OUR PURPOSE To improve the quality of life for children and families worldwide. OUR VISION We will be the world’s premier organization engaging adult and youth Volunteers to improve the quality of life worldwide. The legacy began when a group of businessmen in Detroit, Michigan, USA, joined together for fellowship and fraternity, but a higher purpose soon emerged as the group evolved into an impassioned service club supporting children and young adults. Since its 1915 inception, Kiwanis international has built a powerful presence serving children in every corner of the globe. Today, the organization is a living, thriving body of dynamic, service minded individuals of all ages, connecting through traditional adult clubs and five “sponsored” programs for the youth and young adults. In all, more than 600,000 members in more than 80 countries are “Serving the Children of the World” through their involvement in the Kiwanis family. Kiwanis clubs serve their communities while providing members with an opportunity for personal growth. Members contribute their enthusiasm, time and fund-raising efforts to community projects. For the past several years Kiwanians have contributed funds to the first Worldwide Service Project to virtually eliminate iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of mental retardation in the world. In the end, when all the volunteering, service, and fund-raising is over, Kiwanians feel good about the positive impact they have made on local hospitals, schools, projects and at the very heart of Kiwanis----people. |
