• The Lomita-Harbor City Kiwanis: had their Annual Pancake Breakfast is on Sunday, November 7, 2010,  It was a great success.  Thank you all for attending.

• Torrance Texas Hold 'em Charity Poker Tournament:  The Torrance Club will hold its annual Texas Hold 'em Charity Poker Tournament on Sunday May 16th.  CLICK HERE to download a flyer with all the details.  A good time is guaranteed.

• The LAX Airport Kiwanis Club  held its annual Scholarship Charity Golf tournament on Monday, April 18, 2011. 

• Palos Verdes Marathon: The Palos Verdes Club's 45th Annual Palos Verdes Marathon was held on May 14, 2011 - with a brand new course starting and finishing at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. It was a very successful event - thanks to all of you who helped us.
  Scholarships: The Club held its annual Scholarship Awards Dinner on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Los Verdes Country Club, in which it invited its twenty four (24) 2011 Scholarship winners and their families. Recipients were from schools throughout the South Bay and were all amazingly deserving - our nation will be in good shape when they take over.  It is our favorite event and certainly the best and most personally rewarding event of the year to all who attended.  Special thanks and kudos to Joyce Campbell and Rori Roge for making this event possible.

• The “Kiwanis Doctor” Program:  With the backing of a $186,000 grant from the Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation trains doctors in the field of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. The doctors that have gone through this program then collaborated with Kiwanis Clubs to provide training in the field of pediatric trauma to paramedics, nurses and physicians in rural areas of the Cal-Nev-Ha District. The goal of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship is simple: Save the lives of children by training doctors about the latest in pediatric treatment. • KID IN CHARGE:  This is a program started by Len Kuszmaul a retired firefighter and Kiwanian. The go into schools and provide instructions to kids to go home and change the batteries in the smoke detectors.  Did you know that:

  ü      Fire is the leading cause of death in children under 15

  ü      80% of fire deaths occur when people sleep

  ü      7% of homes in the U.S. lack smoke alarms

  ü      20% of U.S. homes have smoke alarms that do not work

  ü      80% of all fire deaths occurred in 27% of homes that did not have working smoking alarms

   With the instruction to the kids in school they receive a package that includes replacement batteries for their home smoke alarm.  The cost to the Kiwanis Clubs to put on this program is as little as $4 per student. What a wonderful way to show that Kiwanis Cares about the safety of our children.
